Yangyang: Xuanling — Where Her Damage Actually Comes From

Yangyang: Xuanling is a 5★ Havoc-element, Sword-type Resonator, and her banner Voices on Azure Feathers runs [10–30 July 2026] — so with five days left, the pull decision is live. She is the game's first SP Resonator: the 4★ Aero Yangyang most accounts have owned since Jinzhou, returned as a 5★ Havoc carry. She is a Heavy Attack DPS, and her damage is not spread across her kit evenly: it is concentrated in a few conditional Crit DMG windows stacked on top of the Havoc Bane debuff. This guide is about where those numbers actually come from.

The debuff that does the amplifying

Everything routes through Havoc Bane. When a target carries 1 to 3 stacks, each stack amplifies Yangyang: Xuanling's damage by 10%, up to 30%. At 4 to 6 stacks the per-stack value climbs to 12%, up to 36%.

That is a soft breakpoint, not a smooth curve — the jump from three to four stacks changes the coefficient itself, so pushing to the upper band matters more than raw stack count implies.

She applies Havoc Bane liberally. Her Basic Attack Stage 4 in either stance
applies 1 stack, both Heavy Attack stances apply 2 stacks each, and her Liberation raises the target to maximum stacks on hit. Her Intro applies 1 more.

Two stances, two resources

Her combat runs on two toggling stances — Azure Sword Stance and Feather Sword Stance — switched via Resonance Skill. Basic Attacks in either stance consume a Melody resource for up to 4 held hits of Havoc DMG, and while melody is not depleted, hitting with a Basic Attack raises Energy Regen by 20%.

The second resource is Azure Plume. Her Heavy Attacks require it at max, and each empowered Skill cast restores 100 Melody plus 1 point of Azure Plume. The Heavy Attacks are where the real multipliers live — which is why she reads as a Heavy Attack DPS despite the Basic-Attack economy feeding into it.

Where the damage actually comes from

Her base multipliers are unremarkable until three conditional Crit DMG buffs land. Miss the windows and the numbers collapse.

Bated Breath fires when you cast Heavy Attack – Azure Sword Stance while active on field: it increases that attack's Crit DMG by 160% and can be gained only once every 25s.

Streaming Storm is the Feather Stance mirror — Heavy Attack – Feather Sword Stance grants +160% Crit DMG to the attack or the next Feather-line follow-up,
lasting 15s and, again, once every 25s.

Feathered Oath is the stacking layer. When team members inflict Havoc Bane,
she gains a stack (once per second, up to six), each adding +25% Crit DMG to her Heavy Attacks and Havoc-in-Bloom follow-ups, capped at +150%. Stack all three at the Havoc Bane 4–6 band and a single Heavy Attack is carrying a +160% burst window, up to +150% from Oath, and a 12%-per-stack amplifier at once. That is the payload. Everything else in the rotation exists to line those up.

Best Echoes

The recommended Sonata is Song of Feathered Trace, which Game8 also confirms provides the best effects for her damage.

The main 5-cost Echo is Thousand-Puppet Pavilion. For main stats: the 4-cost runs Crit Rate or Crit DMG, the 3-cost runs Havoc DMG, and the 1-cost runs ATK%.

Stat priority is Crit Rate → Crit DMG → Energy Regen → Heavy Attack DMG → ATK%. Game8 adds a concrete substat target — at least 115% Energy Regen for smoother rotations — which is a reasonable floor given how much of her loop is gated behind resource and buff timers. Drop your pieces into the Echo Scorer before you feed anything: on a character this Crit-hungry, a 3-cost with two Crit rolls is worth more than the main-stat lottery suggests.

Weapon ranking

The signature Azure Oath is the clear top choice; Game8 describes it as
drastically buffing her own damage output by a big margin, with amazing Heavy Attack DMG buffs. After that the order runs Emerald Sentence → Emerald of Genesis → Red Spring.

One honesty note: only Azure Oath's position is independently confirmed by a second outlet. The rest of the four-weapon ranking comes from a single build source, and outlets disagree on the tail — some list Fables of Wisdom and Lumingloss instead. Treat the top two as settled and the rest as preference.

Sequences

S3, "My Grief Follows You into the Clouds," is the value stopping point — the sensible place to cap spending. S6 is the second damage spike. S5 is a revive and the weakest node, so it is not a reason to keep pulling if you are chasing damage per pull.

If you are deciding between S0 and S3, compare the sequences directly on her page rather than trusting a star rating — the value of a node depends on the rotation you actually play.

Teams

The headline pairing is Yangyang: Xuanling + Rebecca + Chisa, which Game8
frames as her ideal shape: a Heavy Attack Hypercarry team with Rebecca as Sub-DPS providing All DMG and Heavy Attack DMG amplification, and Chisa as the Support that applies and consumes Havoc Bane.

Chisa earns her slot on the debuff, not the buff: she raises the Havoc Bane stack limit by an additional 3 points, which is what lets Yangyang: Xuanling sit in the 12%-per-stack band instead of the 10% one. Alternatives are + Chisa + Shorekeeper and + Phrolova + Shorekeeper. The budget line is Yangyang: Xuanling + Rover (Havoc) + Verina.

Worth flagging before you build a team around Chisa: Game8 notes the DMG increase Chisa alone provides isn't that big for Yangyang: Xuanling, and expects her setup to differ with the release of Suisui.

Rotation

The standard loop: Intro → Heavy Attack (hold) → Resonance Skill → Heavy Attack (hold) → Liberation → Resonance Skill → Heavy Attack → Outro. The pattern is deliberate — each Skill cast refunds Azure Plume so the next Heavy Attack can fire, and the Liberation maxes Havoc Bane to sit her in the 12%-per-stack band before the final hits.

Read it as buff sequencing, not a combo string: the goal is to land Heavy
Attacks inside the 25s Bated Breath and Streaming Storm windows while Feathered Oath is stacked. Play it out of order and the multipliers this whole guide is about simply don't line up.
